What Is WordCraft? The Original Editor and WordCraft Online

What WordCraft is, who makes it, and how the original desktop, web, and agent tools differ from this independent site.

Last updated: 2026-10-14

The short answer: WordCraft is an open-source word processor made by the ArtCraft team. It is written in Rust, opens and saves DOCX files, and offers a desktop app, a WebAssembly browser build, and CLI/MCP tools for automation. WordCraft Online at wordcraftonline.pro is a separate, independently run service. It uses WordCraft document tools behind an AI request workflow; it is not ArtCraft's official website or the full WordCraft editor.

The original WordCraft repository is the source for the project's code, release links, and current feature status. If you came here looking for the original application, start there.

What does the original WordCraft do?

The original project provides a Word-style document editor. Its README describes direct document editing, DOCX import and export, desktop builds, a browser build, and command-line and MCP interfaces. Those are capabilities of the original project. They do not automatically become features of every site that uses WordCraft tools.

WordCraft's roadmap describes it as an alpha project. If you have a document with complicated layout, review a round-trip copy before relying on it. Check the original project's current documentation for version-specific support.

What is WordCraft Online on this domain?

This site is an independent service for an existing DOCX. You upload the file, describe a writing or formatting change, review a page preview, and download another editable DOCX. A server runs WordCraft document tools with an AI agent to process the request. The privacy policy explains that relevant document text and your request go to the AI provider.

This site's workspace is a chat and preview workflow. It does not present the original WordCraft ribbon for direct manual editing. It accepts DOCX files under 6 MB. For a guest, one document and up to 10 editing requests are free; an account is not needed for that guest use. The service currently has no paid checkout.

Which WordCraft should I use?

Use the original editor to write directly

If you want to type into the document, work with WordCraft's own editing controls, or use the original project's other formats and exports, choose its official desktop or browser build. This is also the right starting point for official release and installation instructions.

Use this site to request an AI edit to an existing DOCX

If you already have a DOCX and want to describe a specific change in plain language, open the WordCraft Online tool. Preview the result and download the DOCX. The AI DOCX guide includes a real, downloadable example.

Use the original CLI or MCP tools for your own automation

If you are building a document workflow inside your own agent or script, the original project's MCP guide documents its command interface. This site is a browser workflow; it is not a hosted endpoint for every WordCraft command.

Is this an official ArtCraft service?

No. This site is independently operated and is not affiliated with ArtCraft. For other browser paths, read Can you use WordCraft online?.
